  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add butter and mix until crumbly.
  4. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture forms a ball.
  5. Roll out the dough and place it into a pie dish.
  6. In another bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  7. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
  8. Cover with top crust, seal edges, and make small slits for steam to escape.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven.
  10. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.
  11. Cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a golden crust, brush the top with egg wash.
  • Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.
