Homemade Shepherd’s Pie

A classic recipe for making homemade shepherd’s pie, perfect for family dinners.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 cup corn
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onions and garlic to the skillet, cooking until soft.
  4. Stir in carrots, peas, corn, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with mashed potatoes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden.
  8. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use ground lamb for a traditional shepherd’s pie.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like green beans or bell peppers.
