A classic shepherd’s pie recipe turned indulgent with the addition of turkey bacon, perfect for a savory meal.

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 4 strips turkey bacon
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook the turkey bacon in a large skillet until crispy, then remove and chop.
  3. Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook until browned.
  4. Add onion, carrots, and garlic; sauté until softened.
  5. Stir in peas, tomato paste, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Transfer the turkey mixture to a baking dish.
  7. Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with butter and milk.
  8. Spread the mashed potatoes over the turkey mixture, topping with cheddar cheese.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add some fresh herbs.
  • Use leftover turkey or chicken for a shorter cook time.
