- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup toffee bits
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Roll out the dough into a circle and place it in a pie pan.
- In a separate bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and sprinkle toffee bits on top.
- Roll out the remaining dough for the top crust, cut slits for steam to escape, and place it over the filling.
- Brush with beaten egg yolk mixed with milk.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
- Let cool before serving.
